Planning Permission has been approved by Liverpool Council this afternoon for Liverpool Waters.

This is the largest project ever considered for planning permission for Liverpool.

However, the scale and nature of this scheme and being of regional and national significance means that the final approval rests with Central Government.

The planning papers will now be sent to central government who will consider whether to pass this back to Liverpool approved or call for a public inquiry.

Lindsey Ashworth – Director of Peel said – “This is end of the beginning of a very long journey and partnership with Liverpool. It’s taken 5 years of hard work to get to this point and words can’t describe how relieved and happy I am that we got this support today and this positive decision.

The scheme was very carefully discussed by members and the quite rightfully the public had their say as you would expect for a project of this importance to the city.

The people of Liverpool clearly are aware that heritage is a consideration but that it’s one of dozens from job creation for local people, through energy efficient environmentally friendly high quality design of buildings to provision of cycle routes.

A big thank you to my Peel team and equally the Council team who all have spent many long hours bringing this project to this first stage. Celebrations are deserved and appropriate”

Ian Pollitt – Development Survey of Peel said – “After almost 5 years of exciting and interesting work, today’s decision by Liverpool City Council to award Liverpool Waters outline planning consent is the next important step in the regeneration of Liverpool’s already world famous waterfront.

I look forward to working in partnership with Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Vision and the new L.E.P. to deliver Peel’s vision over the coming years.

I would also like to thank the Liverpool Waters design team, who have done a fantastic job pulling together this very detailed and complicated outline planning application.”
