Planning Success At Wirral for Peel
Peel have been granted planning permission to refurbish a historic listed building known as the Hydraulic Tower in Birkenhead.
At a planning committee hearing held last night, approval was given for the refurbishment of the Hydraulic Tower and the building of a 10,000 sq ft new hotel.
The Tower, which was bombed during the war will be given a new lease of life and will be converted into a restaurant and bar. A new 92 bed upper/mid market hotel will be built adjacent to the listed building will complement the new amenities.
Peel has been working closely with conservation officers, planners at Wirral Council and heritage partners to bring the Tower back to its former glory.
The £12 million scheme is the first project of many that will see the transformation of the area through Peel’s Wirral Waters £4.5 billion waterfront regeneration scheme.
Richard Mawdsley, Peel said
“This is a great opportunity to transform a derelict but historic property and provide new amenities in the local area. We look forward to continuing to work with Wirral Council and other partners to deliver additional exciting developments that we have planned within the Wirral Waters masterplan”.
