Bridge works at Central Docks

Bridging the future.

Landmark structures begin to emerge across Central Docks

Some of the most exciting pieces of Central Docks are now starting to take shape, with significant progress being made on the neighbourhood’s new road and pedestrian bridges.

Over recent months, teams have been working to install the bridge structures that will connect future homes, public spaces and waterfront destinations across the development. With beams now lifted into place, visitors to the site can begin to see the scale of what is being created.

These landmark crossings will form an important part of the future neighbourhood, helping connect residents and visitors with Central Park, the canal corridor and the wider Liverpool Waters waterfront. Construction continues on the bridges alongside supporting retaining walls and infrastructure works across the site.

What’s dropping next?

Looking ahead…

Over the coming months, the team will continue to progress works across the site, including:

  • New streetscape improvements around Park Street, East Street, Dock Wall Walk and Arrival Square
  • Further utility and drainage installations west of the canal
  • Dredging works and continued demolition of the former screening chamber
  • Construction of a new foul pumping station
  • Completion of ground preparation and tree pit installations across Central Park
  • Continued construction of the road bridge, pedestrian bridge and pergola

Through workshops, mentoring and hands-on learning experiences, the initiative is helping to inspire the next generation of planners, engineers, architects and construction professionals.

Building opportunities,
supporting skills, training and employment.

The Central Docks team continues to work with education providers and supply chain partners to create meaningful opportunities for local people. Recent achievements include:

• Supporting apprenticeship opportunities across the project

Summer Placement Spotlight

One of this summer’s placement students, Angelika Bednarz, joined GRAHAM’s commercial team to gain valuable industry experience alongside her Quantity Surveying studies at Liverpool John Moores University.

Reflecting on her placement, Angelika said:

“The placement has improved my knowledge, confidence and understanding of the industry, which I will take back into my third year at university.”

Supporting future talent remains an important part of the Central Docks programme as we continue to create pathways into careers across the built environment.
